We're in the tiny lake village of Tzununá, on the shores of Lake Atitlán in the highlands of Guatemala. It's a quiet, wild, beautiful corner of the world and part of the medicine is the journey to reach it.

Fly into La Aurora International Airport (GUA) in Guatemala City. From there it's about a 3.5-hour journey to the lake, depending on traffic.

We recommend it. Many guests spend a night in the historic city of Antigua to break up the travel and soften into the pace of Guatemala before continuing to the lake.

Guests arrange their own transportation, which lets you travel on your own schedule and budget. Here are the trusted options we recommend:

• Private taxi (airport or Antigua → Casa): the most direct option, about Q600–Q700 ($78–$91). Message a trusted driver to arrange it — Martha Herrera, WhatsApp +502 3073 0413, or Marco, WhatsApp +502 5931 7878.

• Shared shuttle: the most affordable option, around Q200 ($25). Xocomil Travel Agency runs daily departures from the airport to Panajachel at 6:00am, 11:00am, and 2:00pm.

• Traveling as a group? You can book a private van together: contact Dionysio, WhatsApp +502 4880 3116.

If you arrive by shuttle or public transport, you'll land in Panajachel and reach us by boat across the lake:

• Before 7:30pm: a public boat to the Tzununá dock (Q25, cash only, ~25–30 min), then a short tuk-tuk ride to Casa (~Q25, cash only, ~20 min).

We recommend traveling during the day whenever possible. The daytime journey is far more pleasant — and the views across the lake are unforgettable.

The local currency is the Guatemalan Quetzal (Q), with an exchange rate around 1 USD ≈ 7.2 Q. Many local services: boats, tuk-tuks, small vendors, take cash in Quetzales only, so always carry some with you.

Subtropical and spring-like year-round — warm days, cooler evenings, generally 60–75°F (15–24°C). Dry season runs November–April, wet season May–October. In the wetter months, expect afternoon or evening rains and plan accordingly.

Yes. You're welcome to enjoy Casa Curativa's sauna, cold plunge, herbal plant baths, and bodywork, plus sessions with trusted local practitioners. Some guests book early to decompress after travel; others save it for the end, to integrate their experience.

For many programs you'll also be invited into a course WhatsApp group to stay connected with your cohort (and coordinate travel together, if you'd like). We'll also share a Casa Curativa Guide before you arrive, with what to expect and a little about life in the Guatemalan highlands.
